Oh my WORD. I looooove this! I am going to read it out loud, many times today. The word bumps in here are fantastic, Anne Catherine. I can’t even pick a favorite. Okay, it’s these lines:
“chastity requires tenacity
kohl limbers plasticity”
But I love it all!

I love that the tone is lighthearted and fun but the meaning is heavy and deep, especially “interior either-or,” as if all that matters is what’s on the outside. This makes me think of the movie Clueless (which I have memorized). Great job, Anne Katherine.
Do you remember when everyone used to wear a comb (or a pick) in their back pocket? That was the epitome of coolness. For guys, I think. But I was still a young tomboy then and I so admired the extreme style!
Anyway, I had fun w/ the rhyme – I know what you mean about rhyme, but I wanted to try something different as I usually shy away from it. And I still think it needs a bit more pizazz so to speak, but I think it’s one I need to come back to it after awhile.

I wasn’t with the in-crowd in Middle/Jr or High School – you have capture the drama of the jocks and fashion plates! Some were innocent for a while anyway. I do remember those comb picks. Some sticking out of heads too!

I will try. However, I do not consider myself a poet in any real sense of the word! I’m more of a fiction writer, or so I hope one day! Thanks for the encouragement — it’s a true sign of your very generous spirit!

And you could thump me between the eyes every once in awhile and remind me that I have started a YA novel. That deserves to be worked on, at the very least, and perhaps finished.
I would love to read some of your YA novel. I just cleaned out my older daughter’s room and packed up a ton of her YA novels. I will just say this: I hope yours is original. In other words, just glancing their titles they all seemed to be about the same stuff. Which I suppose is obviously what sells. And perhaps is what people want to read. But I hope you will have the magic formula of being what people want to read and perhaps following some unique veins.
